Cutting edge technlogy keeps seniors in touch with their community

CUTTING edge mapping technology has gone live to help prevent older people becoming isolated across South Lanarkshire.

The online “Locator” tool, funded by the Reshaping Care for Older People (RCOP) programme, fuses the wonders of the satellite age with grass-roots voluntary support.

Now, at the click of a mouse, older residents and their carers can pinpoint local voluntary services and groups around them, ranging from support for illnesses to line dancing and lunch clubs.

Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan) have masterminded the database as part of their vital work in the multi-agency RCOP agenda. In practical terms, RCOP is looking at ways to support the rapidly growing numbers of people aged 65 years and over, focusing on providing more care at home and in the community.
